VentureBeast.Tech is an independent technology publication. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the choices you have. Questions go to privacy@venturebeast.tech.
Information We Collect
- Account. If you register, your email address, display name and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider).
- Newsletter. If you subscribe, your email address and subscription status.
- Comments. The name you enter (or your display name if signed in) and your comment text. We don't ask for an email address to comment.
- Purchases. If you buy a premium subscription, our payment processor collects your card and billing details. We only receive your subscription status and renewal date.
- Page views. Our own analytics record the page you visited, the referring page, campaign (UTM) tags and your browser's user-agent string. We don't store your IP address with this data, and it uses no cookies.
- Affiliate clicks. When you click a partner link, we record which link, the page it was on, the referring page and your user-agent string.
- Optional analytics, only if you accept. Google Analytics (which sets cookies) and Vercel Web Analytics (cookie-free) collect pages visited, traffic sources, device type and approximate region. Neither loads until you click “Accept all” in the cookie banner.
- Performance. Vercel Speed Insights measures how fast pages load. It sets no cookies and collects no information that identifies you.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain your account
- Process article submissions and editorial reviews
- Send newsletter updates (only if you subscribe)
- Provide premium content you've paid for
- Understand which articles are read, and improve the site
- Keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse
- Respond to your inquiries
Service Providers
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. These providers process data on our behalf to run the site, each under its own privacy policy:
- Supabase: accounts, authentication and database hosting
- Vercel: website hosting, performance measurement and (with your consent) Web Analytics
- Google Analytics: audience analytics, only with your consent
- Buttondown: newsletter delivery, if you subscribe
- Stripe: payment processing, if you buy a subscription
- Cloudflare: encrypted off-site backups, and Turnstile, a bot check on sign-in, sign-up, newsletter and guest-comment forms. Turnstile looks at browser signals to tell people from bots; it sets no cookies and isn't used for advertising.
We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect our legal rights.
Links and Embedded Content
Some articles contain affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission. The retailer you land on may set its own cookies to credit the sale. Some articles embed videos (YouTube) or posts (X); those services may collect data once the embed loads. Our “Support Us” link goes to Ko-fi. Sites we link to are governed by their own privacy policies.
Data Retention
- Account data: while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. We keep a record that the address unsubscribed so we don't email it again.
- Comments: until they are removed, or you ask us to delete them.
- Page views and affiliate clicks: deleted automatically 25 months after they are recorded.
- Payment records: kept by Stripe for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Backups: encrypted, access-restricted and used only to recover from an outage. If we ever restore one, we re-apply the deletion requests received since it was made.
Your Rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Access: send you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correct: fix inaccurate data
- Delete: remove your account and personal data
- Export: give you your data in a portable format
- Unsubscribe: stop newsletter emails (every email has a link)
- Withdraw consent: turn optional analytics off at any time under “Cookie Settings” in the footer
Email privacy@venturebeast.tech from the address linked to your account or subscription, so we can verify the request. We respond within 45 days, and we will never treat you differently for exercising these rights.
California Privacy Rights
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you the rights above to know, delete and correct your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for using them. You may also use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
In the past 12 months we have collected these categories of personal information:
- Identifiers: email address, display name
- Internet activity: pages viewed, referring pages, browser user-agent, and (with consent) analytics data
- Commercial information: premium subscription status
We collect them from you and from your browser, for the purposes listed above, and disclose them only to the service providers listed above. We do not collect sensitive personal information.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: we do not sell or share personal information, including that of consumers under 16, so there is nothing to opt out of. You can still turn optional analytics off under “Cookie Settings”.
Under California's “Shine the Light” law, you may ask whether we disclosed personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing. We do not.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a refusal of optional analytics: Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics stay off and we don't show the cookie banner. You can still opt in under “Cookie Settings”. There is no agreed standard for the older “Do Not Track” browser setting, so we don't act on it separately; GPC and the cookie banner are how you control tracking here.
Children's Privacy
VentureBeast.Tech is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email privacy@venturebeast.tech and we will delete it.
Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. Data is stored with access controls (row-level security) that limit each account to its own records, and we keep encrypted off-site backups. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information. To report a vulnerability, see our security page.
International Visitors
We are based in the United States. Our providers may store and process your information in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Cookies
We use essential cookies for sign-in, and analytics cookies only if you accept them. For full details, see our Cookie Policy.
Changes to This Policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll say so on the site and ask for consent where the law requires it.
